In order to move toward attaining the net zero target, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan has urged international brands and purchasers to embrace tactics that foster growth of both sides, including producers.
“I would like to urge brands to adopt holistic strategies while bringing SMEs into the equation to ensure sustainable growth for the entire RMG industry in Bangladesh.” He made this remark during the policy dialogue titled “Swedish-Bangladesh Partnership on Renewable Energy in the RMG Sector” held at a hotel in Dhaka on 7 December.
The Swedish Embassy in Bangladesh, along with the Swedish companies H&M, IKEA, and Lindex, the Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), and the Sweden-Bangladesh Business Council (SBBC), have established the “Sustainable Fashion Platform” initiative to unite and coordinate the sustainability initiatives within Bangladesh’s RMG sector under one roof.
According to a press release, the debate was held as a part of the program that aims to increase Bangladesh’s global competitiveness while also creating a lasting alliance.
Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, the energy adviser to the prime minister, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
